Udupi, July 13: A tense confrontation unfolded in Manipal on Sunday, July 13 when Danish, the prime accused in a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case, violently resisted arrest and attempted to flee during a spot investigation.
The accused, who is facing charges for the sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl, allegedly attacked a police officer with a stone before being subdued by lathi-wielding personnel.

Violent scuffle during investigation
The incident occurred during a spot inspection related to a case registered under Malpe police station limits on July 8. Danish, who was being questioned, suddenly turned violent, hurling a stone at sub-inspector Ritesh from the Udupi Women’s Police Station. In retaliation, police used lathi charge to restrain him, leaving the accused with minor injuries. SI Ritesh sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Udupi District Government Hospital.
SP visits injured officer
Superintendent of Police (Udupi) Hariram Shankar visited the hospital to check on the injured officer’s condition. He assured that strict action would be taken against the accused for assaulting police personnel.
Background of the case
The POCSO case involves the sexual harassment of 8-year-old minor girl who was allegedly lured to Manipal and assaulted. The main accused, a man named Danish from Uttar Pradesh, allegedly committed the crime with the help of a woman named Abhidha, who was actually a relative of the victim's family. Police believe the assault may have been motivated by some personal grudge.
Two other individuals, Shami and Moshi, were also involved in the crime. The terrible incident happened within the jurisdiction of Malpe police station, and a case was officially registered on July 11 under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, which deals specifically with crimes against minors.
What makes this case even more shocking is that Danish, the main accused, already had a previous case against him for attacking police personnel. When officers were investigating the scene of the crime recently, Danish became violent again - he threw stones at the police and tried to escape. The police had to use force to control him, resulting in minor injuries to Danish and one police officer getting hurt.
The injured policeman is now recovering in hospital, and senior police officials have personally checked on his condition. All four accused persons were quickly arrested after the case was filed, and authorities are now looking into whether Danish might have been involved in other crimes elsewhere before this incident.
Swift police action
The accused were arrested immediately after the FIR was filed on July 11. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities examining whether the accused had prior criminal records in other states.
