Udupi, Jan 31: The youth Congress committee of Udupi and Kaup legislative assembly constituency staged a protest in front of the office of the Tahsildar on Monday January 30, urging the district administration to provide BPL ration cards to eligible beneficiaries and to resolve the irregularities in issuing ration cards.

Addressing the protesters, the district women’s Congress president Veronica Cornelio said that despite some of the people having attended the photo session to avail ration cards about seven months ago, they have not received their ration cards yet.  “Meanwhile, a few of the people who applied online find the status of their issuance of ration cards cancelled.  The senior citizens do not get their pensions on time.  The people’s protest can rouse the government to realize their responsibility towards the common man,” said Cornelio.

The district Congress committee chief secretary Kishan Hegde Konkebail said that the state administration is only concerned with retaining the rule while their struggle is focused on the concern of the common man.

The protesters led by Kishan Hegde and Veronica presented a memorandum to the Tahsildar to forward it to Governor Bharadwaj.

Kaup legislative assembly youth Congress president Abdul Aziz Hejmady, Udupi legislative assembly youth Congress president Yatish Karkera, local leaders Rajesh Shetty, Sudhir Hegde, Gangadar Suvarna Kaup, Prakyat Shetty, Nityanand Kammannu, Manoj Karkera, Keerti Shetty, S Kundar, Yasin Malpe, Ganesh Nergi, Krishna Amin, Hasanabba, John Manipal, Yuvaraj, Laxminarayan, Harish Kini, and Naresh Kamat were present on the occasion.
