Heavy rain: Holiday for educational institutions of in DK, Udupi districts on July 17

Mangaluru/Udupi/Bantwal, July 16: Following continuous heavy rainfall across the coastal region, the Dakshina Kannada district along with Udupi district administration have declared a holiday for anganwadis, primary, and high schools  on Thursday, July 17.

In Udupi district, deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K has announced that anganwadis, primary, and high schools will remain closed as a precautionary measure. However, pre-university and degree colleges will function as usual, according to the official statement issued on Wednesday.

In neighbouring Dakshina Kannada district, educational institutions, anganwadis, government-aided, unaided primary, high schools and pre-university colleges will remain closed on July 17. 

The decision comes under a yellow alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of moderately heavy rainfall over the district in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Udupi district administration has also issued an advisory urging fishermen not to venture into the sea, citing turbulent conditions along the coast.
