Indore, Jul 17: In a shocking case of mob brutality, a 28-year-old man from Indore's Azad Nagar area lost his life after being mercilessly beaten by a group of labourers and security guards on suspicion of theft. The victim, Umendra Singh Thakur, sustained more than 40 fractures and succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The gruesome assault took place late Sunday night near a bridge construction site, where Umendra was allegedly caught by workers accusing him of stealing iron rods. CCTV footage reportedly captures the horrifying scene of a group of men brutally thrashing him with sticks.

Locals discovered Umendra lying semi-conscious and alerted the police. He was immediately shifted to MY Hospital by his family. However, the extent of the injuries—shattered ribs, fractured limbs, and severe internal bleeding—proved fatal.

The preliminary post-mortem report confirmed blunt force trauma and extensive fractures across the body, revealing the sheer intensity of the beating. A delay in medical intervention only worsened his condition.

Police have arrested several suspects after identifying them from the CCTV footage. During interrogation, the accused admitted to attacking Umendra, claiming he was caught stealing and that they acted in “rage” rather than following legal procedures. They also reportedly took his belongings.

The victim’s family staged a protest outside the Azad Nagar police station, carrying his body and demanding justice. “My uncle was the only breadwinner. His mother is now alone. They beat him like an animal and left him to die,” said his distraught nephew, Golu Thakur. The family denied all allegations of theft and said there was no previous enmity with the attackers.

Police investigations are ongoing, while the city reels under shock from yet another disturbing instance of mob justice.
