Shock exit: AAP MLA Anmol Gagan Maan resigns, bows out of politics

New Delhi, Jul 19: In a surprising turn of events, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Maan on Saturday announced her resignation from the Punjab Assembly and declared her complete withdrawal from politics.

Maan made the announcement via social media platform X, stating:

“My heart is heavy, but I have decided to leave politics. My resignation from the post of MLA to the Speaker should be accepted. My best wishes are with the party.”

The timing of her exit—just days after meeting AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on July 15—has raised eyebrows across political circles. Notably, following that meeting, Maan had lauded Kejriwal’s leadership, describing his vision as “inspirational.”

Her sudden change of heart has triggered speculation of internal friction within the party.

While AAP has yet to issue an official statement, opposition leaders were quick to pounce. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring commented on X:

“All is not well in @AAPPunjab… One MLA was suspended, and now another quits politics altogether. When the fire breaks out, flames do get noticed far and wide.”

Warring was referring to the recent suspension of Amritsar North MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh for alleged anti-party remarks—fueling perceptions of unrest in the AAP’s Punjab unit.

Anmol Gagan Maan, once seen as a close confidante of AAP’s top leadership and a key player in its cultural outreach, had enjoyed a rising political profile. Her abrupt exit, however, comes as a blow to the party’s optics in the state.

With the next Assembly polls still some distance away, political analysts suggest Maan’s resignation may be an early sign of deeper internal fissures.
