Mumbai, Jul 21: Director-producer Karan Johar on Monday shut down a troll who mocked him as a “nepo kid ka daijaan” for praising debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s performances in Saiyaara. Karan, who was deeply moved by the Mohit Suri directorial, shared an emotional post on Instagram calling the film “magical” and the “best work” of the filmmaker's career.
In his heartfelt note, Karan described Saiyaara as a celebration of love on the silver screen that brought him to tears. “I don’t remember the last time I felt like this after watching a film – tears flowing and yet immense joy. A love story has conquered the screen and made the nation fall in love again,” he wrote.

He praised Ahaan Panday’s debut, calling him “spectacular” and said his performance broke his heart while energising him as a filmmaker. Aneet Padda was described as “lovely” and “amazing,” with Karan highlighting her “silences” and emotional depth. He added that both actors were “beyond magical.”
Karan also applauded Mohit Suri for his direction and lauded the film’s music as not just a pillar but a character in itself. He credited YRF and producer Aashish Widhani for backing the film and expressed pride in being a part of the YRF family.
Reacting to the post, a user commented, “Aa gaya nepo kid ka daijaan,” to which Karan sharply replied, “Chup kar! Ghar baithe baithe negativity mat paal. Do bachon ka kaam dekh aur khud kuch kaam kar!”
Other fans and social media users came out in support of Karan’s views, with many appreciating the performances of the newcomers. One user said, “Only once in a while a movie like this comes out – heart-shattering yet uplifting.”
Despite having no star power or franchise tag, Saiyaara has performed impressively at the domestic box office, collecting Rs 83 cr so far. The romantic drama tells the story of Krish (Ahaan), an aspiring singer, and Vaani (Aneet), a lyricist who pens words for his melodies.
The film’s success and emotional depth have sparked praise across the industry and among audiences, marking a strong debut for both lead actors.
