Mangaluru, Jul 22: Dakshina Kannada (DK) district has achieved nearly 82.1% coverage in generating Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) IDs, a mandatory digital identity for students from kindergarten to class XII. The district has consistently maintained the top position in Karnataka since the launch of the initiative, according to officials from Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK).

Despite the strong performance, the process for newly admitted students in kindergarten and class I is yet to begin this academic year. Parents have been urged to ensure that all necessary documents are in order, as the APAAR ID will become essential for various academic processes and performance tracking in the future.

The primary challenge in achieving full registration lies in discrepancies between students’ Aadhaar details and the data entered in the Student Tracking System. Many students from migrant families, particularly from north Karnataka, face issues such as spelling errors in names or mismatched addresses, preventing successful generation of IDs. Since rectifying these details requires visiting their native places—often done only once or twice a year—the process gets delayed.

Schools with a high number of admissions from migrant communities report lower completion rates for APAAR registration due to these data mismatches.

Dakshina Kannada DDPI Govinda Madivala emphasized the importance of APAAR IDs in streamlining the education system. The initiative aims to enhance administrative efficiency, eliminate duplication, reduce fraud, support student mobility, and offer greater academic flexibility. He noted that the ID will soon be integrated with entrance exams and other key academic processes.
