Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Bengaluru, have predicted heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in coastal Karnataka till July 27. Gusty winds are also expected over the Arabian Sea, leading to rough sea conditions.
Authorities have urged the public, tourists, and fishermen to stay away from rivers, water bodies, and the sea. People, especially children and workers, are advised not to venture outside during rain, strong winds, or lightning, and to take shelter in safe buildings. Farmers are also advised to avoid outdoor agricultural activities during such weather.

The public is warned to avoid standing near dangerous trees or electric poles, and to stay away from broken power lines. People should also avoid weak or old buildings and trees. Hazardous branches or creepers over buildings must be removed in advance to prevent damage.
Landslides are likely in certain areas, and residents in such regions are advised to contact the local tahsildar or gram panchayat officials and take shelter at the nearest relief centres well in advance.
