Mangaluru, Jul 24: Following continuous heavy rainfall across the coastal region, a holiday has been declared for anganwadis, primary, high schools and pre-university colleges on Thursday, July 24 in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district except Sullia and Beltangady taluks.
The decision comes under an alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of heavy rainfall over Dakshina Kannada district.
Several parts of Dakshina Kannada witnessed intense rainfall throughout the day on Wednesday, overnight and early morning on Thursday, disrupting normal life.

Parents are asked to ensure that children do not go to low lying areas, lakes, sea shore and river sides. The fishermen too have been warned aginst venturing into water. Taluk level officers have been asked to remain at the headquarters compulsorily. Nodal officers appointed for various positions by the district administration have been asked to be alert and respond to public complaints.
