Puttur, Jul 24: The Uppinangady police have arrested a warrant accused who had been absconding without appearing before the court in connection with a 2021 criminal case registered under the Uppinangady police station limits.

The arrested has been identified as Yathiraj (34) from Manjeshwar. He had been evading court appearances since 2022, despite the court issuing seven warrants against him. The police finally apprehended him and produced him before the court.

In light of his repeated failure to comply with court summons, a fresh case has been registered against him under Section 269 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 at the Uppinangady police station.

According to police, the accused is also allegedly involved in multiple vehicle theft cases under the jurisdiction of Puttur Town, Bantwal Town, and Venoor police stations. Additionally, about seven cases are registered against him in Konaje, Kavoor, and Vittal police stations.
