UAE banks to phase out SMS OTPs, In-app verification mandatory from July 25

Daijiworld Media Network – Dubai

Dubai, Jul 24: Starting July 25, 2025, banks in the UAE will begin replacing SMS and email-based OTPs with mobile app-based transaction verification, following instructions from the Central Bank of the UAE. The complete transition will be enforced by March 31, 2026.

As per the official circular cited by Emarat Al Youm, customers will now be required to approve or reject transactions via their bank's mobile application using the "authentication via mobile application" option.

This change comes in response to rising cybersecurity threats and aims to improve transaction safety. Customers must install their bank's app and activate push notifications to continue digital banking without disruption.
