Kasargod, Jul 26: A sense of relief prevailed among residents of Kanhangad South after gas was successfully transferred from an overturned tanker to another, following a major accident. Vehicular movement on the national highway, which had been halted since early morning, resumed after the hazardous operation was completed safely.

A team of experts from Mangaluru arrived at the scene and safely transferred the gas from the damaged tanker into three other tankers, effectively controlling the situation. The operation concluded at 11:30 pm, and vehicular traffic resumed around 2:00 am.

Officials managed the entire process without any mishap, earning appreciation for their successful execution.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, when a tanker en route from Bengaluru to Coimbatore overturned on the roadside after the driver reportedly lost control. Although there was no immediate gas leakage, precautionary measures were promptly enforced in the surrounding area. Power supply was disconnected, and residents were instructed to vacate the area for safety.

However, on Friday morning, while lifting the overturned tanker using a crane, a gas leak was detected, triggering panic in the locality. Authorities quickly alerted HPCL officials in Mangaluru.

A coordinated operation was carried out with the help of the District Disaster Management Authority, police, and fire and emergency services personnel. Thanks to their combined efforts, the gas was safely transferred, and the situation was brought under control by 11:30 pm on Friday.
