Dubai, Jul 26: Cricketing giants India and Pakistan are set to face off on September 14 in what is expected to be a high-voltage encounter during the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament, to be held from September 9 to 28, will be played in the fast-paced T20 format and hosted across two prominent venues — Abu Dhabi and Dubai — in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the tournament schedule on Saturday. A total of 19 matches will be played in this edition, featuring eight teams divided into two groups.
Group A: India, Pakistan, UAE, Oman
Group B: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Hong Kong
The much-anticipated India-Pakistan group-stage clash is scheduled for Sunday, September 14, with the possibility of two more face-offs if both teams advance to the Super Four stage and eventually meet in the final — a historic showdown that has never occurred before in the Asia Cup's legacy.
Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) retains hosting rights, the tournament will take place at a neutral venue due to prevailing diplomatic tensions, particularly between India and Pakistan. This follows the recent hybrid models adopted for the 2023 Asia Cup and this year’s Champions Trophy.
Asia Cup 2025 Format
The tournament format allows the top two teams from each group to qualify for the Super Four stage. In this phase, each team will play against the other three once. The top two from the Super Four will then clash in the grand final on September 28 (Sunday).
