Mangaluru, Jul 27: The Laudato Si’ environmental awareness programme was observed at St Theresa Church, Paldane, Mangaluru, by planting saplings to promote environmental care.
In response to the call given by Pope Francis in 2015, this initiative has been continued annually in churches by planting environment-friendly saplings.

The parish priest, Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, inaugurated the event by planting a sapling. In his address, he emphasised that protecting the environment is everyone’s duty and responsibility. He noted that planting trees helps maintain ecological balance, and thus, everyone should become nature lovers by planting saplings.
The event was graced by the presence of the church vice president Elias Fernandes, secretary Austin Montero, coordinator of all commissions Joslin Lobo, environmental commission coordinator Celine D’Souza, former vice president William Lobo, Akaar Enterprises proprietor Melwyn D’Souza, Sacred Heart Ward representative Richard Martis, choir coordinator Lizzie Fernandes, along with ward leaders, representatives, and parishioners.
