Udupi: Serial burglar Abu Bakar with over 30 cases nabbed; gold & scooter worth Rs 7 lac seized

Udupi, July 27: In a major breakthrough, Udupi district police have arrested a notorious inter-district burglar identified as Abu Bakar, also known as Abdul Khader and Itte Barpe Abubakkar, in connection with a recent house burglary in Shirva village.

The incident occurred on the night of June 26 at the residence of Pavithra Poojarthi, located near Mattaru Road in Shirva. According to police sources, the accused broke open window hooks and forced entry using a hooked rod, while the woman and her son were asleep inside.

The burglar escaped with approximately 137 grams of gold ornaments, valued at around Rs 12.75 lac. A case was registered at the Shirva police station immediately after the incident.

Under the guidance of Udupi district superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, and the leadership of additional SP Sudhakar S Naik and Karkala ASP Dr Harsha Priyamvada, an investigation team led by Kapu circle inspector Jayashree S Mane launched a coordinated manhunt and successfully apprehended Abu Bakar.

The police recovered approximately 66.760 grams of gold ornaments, along with the Jupiter scooter used in the commission of the crime. The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 7 lac.

Police sources revealed that the accused is a seasoned criminal with a history of involvement in more than 30 burglary cases spread across different districts in Karnataka. “His arrest has likely prevented several future crimes. We are now verifying his links to unsolved cases in neighbouring jurisdictions,” said a senior officer involved in the operation.

The successful operation was the result of collaborative efforts involving officers and personnel from multiple stations. These included Shirva PSI Manjunath Marabada, Lohith Kumar S, Padubidri PSI Anil Kumar T Naik, Kapu PSI Mahesh T M, and police personnel Manjunath Adiga, Anwar Ali, Siddharayappa, Kiran, Manjunath Hosamani, Basavaraj, Prakash Suvarna, and Sridhar Shettigar.

Also assisting in the operation were circle office staff Riaz Ahmad, Sharanappa, Jeevan, Pavangi, Dinesh, and drivers Jagadish and .

Further investigation is underway to recover the remaining stolen items and to build a comprehensive charge sheet against the accused.
