New Delhi, Jul 31: A celebratory night turned into a tragedy in the national capital as a young man was brutally stabbed to death in a suspected case of road rage near Delhi’s Ghazipur area on Wednesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Vikas, a resident of Faridabad, who was in Delhi to celebrate his birthday with his close friend Sumit. The two were reportedly seated in Vikas' vehicle near a liquor shop at the Paper Market area when a biker brushed past them, sparking an argument.

According to police sources, an altercation broke out when Vikas confronted the rider. The situation escalated rapidly as the biker made a phone call, summoning at least six of his associates to the spot. What followed was a violent attack, where the group allegedly assaulted Vikas and Sumit using rods and repeatedly stabbed them.

In the brutal assault, Vikas succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Sumit was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. He was later referred to a private facility, where his condition is reported to be critical.

Vikas, who was employed with a private insurance firm in Noida along with Sumit, was due to get married soon. He was residing in a PG accommodation in Noida and had informed his family that he would spend the night with friends after work.

Speaking to the media, Vikas’ grieving mother shared, "He left for work in the morning and said he would return home the next day. We never imagined we’d see him like this."

Sumit's friend added, "They were dragged into a lane and mercilessly beaten. It was a planned attack."

Delhi Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the accused. Further investigation is underway.
