Parra road tragedy claims two lives, two others critically injured

Calangute, Aug 1: In a tragic late-night road accident on the Saligao–Parra stretch, two riders lost their lives while two pillion riders sustained critical injuries following a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a scooter.

The deceased have been identified as Omkar Karapurkar (31), a resident of Tivim, and Mohammad Faraz of Mapusa. According to Saligao police, the mishap occurred on Wednesday night when the two vehicles collided near Saligao.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Karapurkar, who was riding a motorcycle with Dipesh Pednekar as pillion, was travelling towards Mapusa, while Faraz, who was riding a scooter with Jebin Sultana (25) of Karaswada as pillion, was heading in the opposite direction.

All four were immediately rushed to the district hospital in Mapusa. However, both riders succumbed to their injuries. The pillion riders, Pednekar and Sultana, remain in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC).

Saligao police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
