New Delhi, Aug 1: Vijay Deverakonda's much-awaited spy thriller Kingdom opened in theatres on Thursday, July 31, marking his return to action-packed roles. Directed by Gowtham Tinnauri, the film features the actor as Surya, an undercover operative on a high-stakes mission in Sri Lanka to locate his missing brother Siva, played by Satyadev Kancharana.
On its opening day, Kingdom collected Rs 15.50 crore at the box office, according to trade data from industry tracker Sacnilk. The film witnessed a healthy average occupancy of 57.87% in the Telugu-speaking regions, with the morning shows leading at 63.56%, and night shows not far behind at 61.27%.
Though Kingdom surpassed the Day 1 earnings of Deverakonda’s earlier releases like The Family Star (Rs 5.75 crore) and Khushi (Rs 15.25 crore), it fell short of outperforming his 2019 release Liger, which had opened at Rs 15.95 crore.
The film has managed to generate buzz not only among fans but also within the industry. Actress Rashmika Mandanna, rumoured to be Deverakonda’s partner, took to social media to share her excitement, praising the trailer and wishing the team ahead of its release.
As the weekend approaches, all eyes are now on whether Kingdom can sustain its momentum and emerge as another major success for Vijay Deverakonda at the box office.
