90-year-old declared 'dead' by son to sell ancestral land, seeks justice

Muzaffarpur, Aug 5: In a shocking case of alleged betrayal, a 90-year-old man from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur knocked on the doors of the District Magistrate on Saturday, pleading for justice after his own son reportedly declared him dead on paper to sell off ancestral land.

Raj Narayan Thakur, walking with the aid of a stick, submitted a formal complaint alleging that his fifth son, Dilip Thakur, sold a portion of their ancestral property for Rs 2 lac by falsely claiming that his father had passed away. The sale was reportedly executed at the Motipur Registry Office without any physical land verification.

Thakur, a resident of Mahmadpur village, stated that the land in question is still in the name of his father, Late Methura Thakur, and has not yet been legally divided among him and his two brothers – Ramjinish and Rampukar. “There has only been a verbal understanding of separation between us; no demarcation or division of land has taken place,” he mentioned in his plea.

Despite this, the sale deed produced by Mr Thakur shows his son Dilip, 44, transferring the land to one Suman Saurabh, with the registry document falsely declaring the elderly man as deceased. “This fraudulent activity has been carried out without my knowledge, consent, or legal authority, causing me immense mental distress and financial loss,” said Thakur.

He has urged the district administration to immediately investigate the matter, cancel or freeze the fraudulent land transfer, and take strict legal action against all involved. The elderly man also alleged that Dilip is an alcoholic and has previously sold family property to fund his addictions.

Fighting tears, Thakur told the media that no one in his family checks on him anymore. “Nobody asks if I have eaten or need clothes. I only want my rightful property to be protected,” he said.

Responding to the complaint, District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen has directed the concerned Circle Officer and Station House Officer to launch an immediate investigation.
