London, Aug 5: As the curtain fell on the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, Chris Gayle reflected on the West Indies Champions’ narrow miss in the semifinals while fuelling excitement for the future with talk of a possible reunion with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.
Though the West Indies side fell short of the final four, Gayle struck an optimistic tone, sharing his plans for a stronger comeback in the 2026 edition. “We made some mistakes this season that cost us a place in the semis,” Gayle admitted. “But we’ll be back stronger next year. This was a great experience, and the mission now is to come back with a bang in WCL 2026.”

Adding to the buzz, Gayle opened up about the idea of playing alongside his former IPL teammates once more. “Virat is a phenomenal player. We’ve spent some great time together both on and off the field. He is a true legend of the sport, and we miss him dearly in international cricket,” he said.
When asked about a Kohli–Gayle–de Villiers reunion in the Legends League, the "Universe Boss" didn’t rule it out. “That would be something special. Fans would love that,” he smiled.
Team owner Ajay Sethi echoed Gayle’s confidence. “Wins and losses are part of the game. I’ll sit with Chris and plan new strategies for next season. Every edition teaches us something new, and we are committed to a serious title run in 2026.”
While the West Indies bowed out, the tournament ended on a high with the South Africa Champions lifting their first-ever WCL trophy. AB de Villiers stole the show in the final with a spectacular century, guiding his side to a dominant nine-wicket win over the Pakistan Champions.
With fan anticipation building and legends teasing potential returns, WCL 2026 is already shaping up to be a blockbuster. And if the stars align, cricket fans could witness a dream trio lighting up the field once more.
