Margao, Aug 16: Margao town police have stepped up action against traffic violations, focusing on underage motorcycle riders and vehicles with modified silencers, as part of an ongoing drive addressing noise pollution and safety concerns.

Police inspector Suraj Samant said that despite previous enforcement efforts, violations continue to persist, prompting intensified operations. “Over the last few months, we have seized several two-wheelers for offences including underage riding, riding without a licence, and modified silencers. Yet, the situation remains concerning,” he said.

Samant warned parents against allowing minors to ride motorcycles. “Despite repeated advisories, many parents ignore the rules. Accidents happen, and they blame others. Parents must ensure their children do not ride without a valid driving licence,” he added.

He also noted that modified silencers carry a penalty of Rs 10,000, which is compounded before the court, yet violations continue unabated.
