Los Angeles, Aug 16: Tristan Rogers, best known for his iconic role as Robert Scorpio on the daytime soap opera General Hospital, has passed away at the age of 79, his manager confirmed to ABC 7. The Australian actor succumbed to lung cancer, despite never having been a smoker.

Rogers’ manager, Meryl Soodak, paid tribute, saying, “He loved being Scorpio, and he created that role from nothing. He was just a genuinely loyal, kind human being and he loved his family.”

The news comes less than a month after Rogers publicly revealed his diagnosis, coinciding with his final appearance on General Hospital. In a July statement, his representatives said the family requested privacy while navigating both the emotional and physical challenges of the illness.

Rogers first appeared on General Hospital in 1980, remaining a key character until 1992, with recurring appearances through 2025. Known for his charisma and the enigmatic nature of Robert Scorpio, he became a fan favourite across decades.

Aside from General Hospital, Rogers appeared in other daytime soaps including The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, but his portrayal of Scorpio remained his most beloved role. Speaking in 2020, he described the character as “fresh and different for daytime television, as a sort of intriguing--mysterious type.”

Rogers is survived by his wife Teresa and children Sara Jane, 32, and Cale, 29. His fans and colleagues alike remember him for his dedication, charm, and enduring legacy in the world of daytime television.
