Idaho, Aug 16: Authorities in Idaho are investigating a leaked video that appears to show convicted murderer Bryan Kohberger inside his maximum-security prison cell. Kohberger faces charges for the 2022 stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students.

The video, reportedly filmed from above, shows Kohberger placing an item on a shelf while standing inside his cell, Fox News reported. The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) confirmed awareness of the circulating footage, stating on social media, “While we cannot yet confirm the veracity of the videos, if verified, they are a clear violation of IDOC policy and the parties responsible will be held accountable, up to and including termination.”

Officials warned that the videos could be fake or AI-generated and noted that staff had recently been reminded about the prison’s social media and professionalism policies. IDOC added, “Videotaping and publicly sharing security footage is prohibited conduct and we will be reviewing all legal options, including criminal prosecution.”

Kohberger is housed in the prison’s "J Block," a single-occupancy section reserved for high-risk inmates who receive only an hour of outdoor time per day. The footage comes shortly after reports that Kohberger complained of being harassed by other prisoners, with some allegedly yelling at him through the cell grates.

An IDOC spokesperson told NewsNation, “Bryan Kohberger is housed alone in a cell, and IDOC security staff maintain a safe and orderly environment for all individuals in our custody.” The spokesperson added that communication among inmates is common but emphasized that Kohberger’s safety is being closely monitored.

The investigation into the source and authenticity of the video is ongoing.
