Veteran Marathi actress Jyoti Chandekar passes away at 69

Pune, Aug 17: Veteran actress Jyoti Chandekar, a much-loved presence in Marathi cinema and television, passed away in Pune on Saturday, August 16, at the age of 69. She had been undergoing treatment before her demise.

Her daughter, actress Tejaswini Pandit, confirmed the news and said the funeral will be held today, August 17, at 11 am at Navi Peth Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune.

In an emotional statement, Tejaswini said, “It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our beloved mother and everyone’s cherished senior actress, Mrs. Jyoti Chandekar Pandit, who lived life on her own terms and always greeted the world with a warm smile.”

Chandekar began her acting career at the age of 12 and went on to build a remarkable career spanning five decades. She was best known for her role as Purna Aji in Tharal Tar Mag, a performance fondly remembered by audiences. Her filmography includes Dharmakanya, Dholki, Paoolwaat, Guru, and Sojourner, among several others.

Known for her warmth and powerful screen presence, Chandekar won hearts with authentic portrayals that resonated deeply with viewers.

Her demise marks the end of an era for Marathi cinema and television, but her legacy will continue to inspire generations of artistes and audiences alike.
