New Delhi, Aug 17: A 30-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries on Saturday afternoon when his throat was slit by a Chinese ‘manjha’ (synthetic kite string) near Tughlakabad Metro Station, police said.
The victim, identified as Rajneesh from Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh, was found bleeding profusely on the flyover connecting Sarita Vihar to Faridabad around 4:40 pm. He was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors stated that his condition remains critical.
Police said the injury was caused by a red-coloured nylon manjha, commonly referred to as Chinese manjha, which is banned due to its hazardous nature. Legal action has been initiated, and further probe is underway.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the easy availability of Chinese manjha in the capital, despite frequent crackdowns.
Just last month, Nand Nagri Police had seized 325 rolls of the banned string from two siblings, Samir (22) and Shakir (18), who admitted to stocking it for sale ahead of the festive season. A case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Environment Protection Act was registered against them.
Authorities have intensified their drive against the sale of Chinese manjha, which has caused several injuries and fatalities involving people, birds, and animals in the past.
