Muscat, Aug 17: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Oman’s Directorate General for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances has arrested six Asian nationals and seized more than 55 kg of illegal drugs, including 32 kg of crystal meth and 23 kg of marijuana.
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) confirmed the arrests on Sunday, stating that all accused have been taken into custody and legal procedures are underway. The crackdown comes as part of the Sultanate’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking and abuse.
Earlier this month, Omani authorities intercepted 15 kg of opium concealed in water pumps bound for Europe, highlighting the international reach and evolving methods of the narcotics trade. Officials said inspections at borders, shipping companies, and logistics hubs are being strengthened to curb smuggling attempts.
The ROP reiterated its commitment to safeguarding society from narcotics, warning that strict legal action will continue against traffickers and those attempting to destabilise public health and security.
