Daijiworld Media Network- New Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 17: Dengue cases have shown a fresh surge across several regions with health authorities urging citizens to remain alert during the monsoon. The disease is caused by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which breeds in stagnant water.

Symptoms to watch for

• High fever up to 104°F lasting 2–7 days

• Severe headache and pain behind the eyes

• Intense joint and muscle pain

• Nausea and vomiting

As per the CDC, one in 20 patients may develop severe dengue, which can lead to internal bleeding, shock, and even death if untreated.

Preventive measures

• Consume Vitamin C-rich foods like oranges, kiwi, and guava

• Papaya leaf extract may help maintain platelet counts

• Stay hydrated with coconut water and herbal teas

• Traditional remedies like turmeric milk and giloy juice may support immunity

Myths clarified

• Dengue does not spread from person to person

• Mosquitoes also breed in clean water, not only dirty water

Natural protection

• Citronella, Tulsi, and Lavender plants act as natural mosquito repellents

Health officials have appealed to the public to eliminate stagnant water, use mosquito nets, and seek immediate medical help in case of fever.
