Jaisalmer, Aug 20: Security agencies in Rajasthan detained a 30-year-old man on suspicion of spying for Pakistan, marking the fourth such case reported from Jaisalmer this month.

The accused has been identified as Jivan Khan (30), a resident of Sankada area, who had earlier worked at a restaurant inside the military zone in Jaisalmer. On Tuesday (Aug 19), Khan allegedly attempted to regain entry into the Army station but was stopped at the gate.

Military Intelligence (MI) officials checked his mobile phone and reportedly found suspicious activity. He was subsequently detained and handed over to Kotwali police the same night.

During preliminary questioning, Khan is said to have admitted to having relatives in Pakistan. He is likely to be produced before the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) for further questioning by multiple security agencies.

This incident follows a series of similar arrests in the region. On August 13, a contractual manager at the DRDO guest house near Chandan Field Firing Range, identified as Mahendra Prasad of Almora (Uttarakhand), was also arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI.

Investigations had revealed that Prasad was in contact with Pakistani handlers via social media and was suspected of passing sensitive details about the movement of DRDO scientists and Army officers engaged in missile and weapons testing at the firing range.

Authorities have intensified surveillance across border districts as the pattern of espionage-related cases continues to emerge.
