Fourth spy arrest in Jaisalmer sparks concerns over security breaches

Jaipur, Aug 20: Security agencies in Rajasthan have arrested 25-year-old Jeevan Khan from the Jaisalmer–Jodhpur Road area on charges of espionage, marking the fourth such arrest this year in the sensitive border district. Khan, who previously worked at a restaurant near a military zone, was caught allegedly communicating with Pakistani contacts using multiple foreign numbers stored on his mobile phone.

Khan had returned to the area recently seeking employment, and sources revealed he had been under surveillance for some time, with investigators monitoring his movements and call history. He is expected to be handed over to the Joint Investigation Committee for deeper interrogation.

His arrest follows a string of recent espionage-related cases in Jaisalmer. On August 4, Mahendra Prasad, a DRDO guest house manager, was detained for allegedly leaking sensitive information about Army operations to Pakistani handlers. Earlier, on May 28, Shakoor Khan, a Rajasthan government employee and former personal assistant to a Congress minister, was taken into custody for similar charges. In March, Pathan Khan was apprehended under the Official Secrets Act, just days before the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.

These arrests come amid heightened surveillance in Rajasthan’s border districts, especially after ‘Operation Sindoor’, a military response targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir. Security forces are now closely monitoring individuals with cross-border contacts or those found using Pakistani numbers.

Officials say this recent wave of espionage activity poses serious concerns about intelligence leaks from strategically important military areas.
