Missile from Yemen likely breaks mid-air as Houthis claim attack on Israel

Daijiworld Media Network - Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv, Aug 23: Israel’s military reported on Friday that a missile launched from Yemen likely fragmented in mid-air after air raid sirens were triggered across several areas in the country.

Yemen’s Houthi militant group claimed responsibility, stating that it carried out three operations targeting Israel, including firing a ballistic missile towards Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, according to their military spokesperson Yahya Saree.

Israeli defence systems attempted multiple interceptions during the incident, and no injuries were reported, Israeli police confirmed.

The Iran-aligned Houthis, who control Yemen’s most populous regions, have repeatedly launched missiles and drones at Israel and shipping lanes, claiming their attacks show solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Most of these projectiles have been intercepted or fallen short, prompting retaliatory strikes by Israel.
