Kejriwal slams Delhi CM Rekha Gupta over lathi charge on SSC asspirants

New Delhi, Aug 25: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, condemning the lathi charge on Staff Selection Commission (SSC) aspirants protesting at Ramleela Maidan.

He accused the government of using brute force to silence students who were demanding justice over alleged irregularities in the SSC exams. The protest, held late Saturday night, turned violent when police resorted to baton charge, leaving many students injured. Media personnel were also stopped from covering the incident, triggering widespread outrage.

Taking to social media platform X, Kejriwal alleged that BJP had made a mockery of democracy and the system. “See the BJP’s dictatorship and thuggery… Those who question the BJP are silenced with lathi charges, people are thrown in jail at will, and even votes are tampered with. Open thuggery is rampant,” he posted.

The aspirants are demanding cancellation of the current exam results, a fresh re-examination, and strict action against those responsible for the mismanagement. “These students have been fighting for justice for months. Instead of listening, they were beaten in the darkness of the night. The hands that should have been holding books now bear injury marks,” Kejriwal added.

The SSC Phase 13 exam, conducted from July 24 to August 1 across 194 centres in 142 cities, faced multiple glitches, including abrupt cancellations, software crashes, biometric failures, and wrong centre allotments. Around 5 lakh candidates appeared for the examination.

These disruptions have sparked massive protests in Delhi over the past week, drawing thousands of aspirants to the streets and fuelling anger across social media platforms.
