Netanyahu warns of sharp response after Israel strikes Yemen’s Sanaa

Tel Aviv, Aug 25: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday warned that his country will retaliate strongly against any attacks, hours after Israeli airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, killed at least six people.

Overseeing the strikes from the Israeli Air Force command centre in Tel Aviv, Netanyahu said the Houthis were paying the price for “their aggression against Israel.” “Whoever attacks us, we will attack him. Whoever plans to attack us, we attack him. The Houthi terrorist regime is learning the hard way that it will pay and is paying a very heavy price,” he said.

The Israeli military said its strikes hit a military compound housing the presidential palace, along with two power stations and a fuel depot, in retaliation to repeated Houthi drone and missile attacks on Israel.

A photo released by the Israeli defence ministry showed Netanyahu with defence minister Israel Katz and military chief Eyal Zamir during the operations.

Meanwhile, the Houthis vowed to continue their fight, declaring they would not back down “until the aggression stops and the blockade on Gaza is lifted.”
