Washington, Aug 29: Amid speculation and concern over US President Donald Trump’s health, Vice President JD Vance has assured the nation that the President is fit to serve his full term, while also asserting that he is prepared to step in as Commander-in-Chief in case of any “terrible tragedy.”
In an interview with USA Today, the 41-year-old Republican leader — the third-youngest Vice President in US history — said he was “overwhelmed” by the grandeur and history of the Oval Office when he first entered it in January this year.

“The president is in incredibly good health. He’s got incredible energy,” Vance stated, stressing that the 79-year-old Trump is “in good shape” and will “do great things for the American people.”
The reassurance comes after a visible bruise on Trump’s hand during his meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung sparked speculation about his health. Trump, who took office in January at the age of 78 years and seven months, became the oldest president in US history to assume office, surpassing Joe Biden’s record in 2021.
While confident about Trump’s fitness, Vance acknowledged his constitutional responsibility: “If, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days.”
Earlier this month, Trump described Vance as his “most likely heir” to the MAGA movement, though the Vice President has brushed aside speculation regarding a 2028 presidential bid.
Vance also offered lighter remarks on the President’s redecoration of the White House, saying he preferred the brighter atmosphere: “When I first walked in, the drapes were closed, it felt dark and gloomy. This is the workplace of the leader of the free world — it should be brighter. I like what the President has done to it.”
