Bangalore, Feb 6: The State Government will continue to put pressure on the Centre to address the problems faced by villagers surrounding the Kaiga atomic power project in Uttara Kannada district.

Karnataka’s Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, who is also the Uttara Kannada district in-charge minister, made the statement in the State Assembly while replying to JD(S) member Sunil Hegde during the zero hour.

The villagers continued their protest outside the Deputy Commissioner's office in Karwar seeking fulfillment of their various demands, including proper rehabilitation, the minister said.

Kageri said Minister for Environment and Fisheries Anand Asnotikar had met the Central Government officials and informed them about the adverse consequences of the plant on villagers surrounding the plant.

The nuclear plant came under the direct control of the Centre and the State Government had no control over its management.

However, he said the state government would continue our efforts to convince the Centre about bad consequences of the plant on lives of villages around the project.
