Udupi, Feb 6: The district Nagarika Samiti staged a protest at Car Street on Monday February 6, condemning the rave party by Westerners at St Mary’s Island, Malpe, during the ‘International Festival’ on Saturday February 4.

Addressing the protesters, district Nagarika Samiti chief secretary Nityanand Olakadu said that they are staging a mock-up of the rave party that was held during the International Festival in order to convince the district administration that luring Western tourists to earn a few dollars is not legitimate. Nityanand said that it will project Indian culture in poor taste.

He urged the Archaeological Survey of India to include St Mary’s Island, Malpe, under the national heritage list.

A Western woman Chandramohini, who belongs to Hare Harama Hare Krishna sect, addressing media persons said that Indian culture enables a woman to wear the sari that covers her entire body.  “Western tourists are expected to respect the local culture and not indulge in rave parties, especially on Indian soil,” she said.

Part of the "Rich cultural heritage" of India are Ganja and Sadhu's isn't it ? So why do some Indians get upset when a few Hippy europeans enjoy themselves? Please look at the behaviour of yourself first before you cry out about flesh trade. The word Eve-teasing was invented in India, remember?

The rave party was conducted jointly by Girish Shetty and local MLA Raghupathi Bhat. Our MLA was in the island on all the three days and so were his friends from udupi, managalore and mumbai. Atleast 15 BJP Municipal Councillors of Uudpi TMC were actively involved and participated in the rave party. This is the high standard and moral of the disciplined party. This fact is known to the DC, Tahsildar, Police, Excise Department and other government officials who were present in the island

Rave parties involving drugs and prostitution and the wandering Hippy europeans should be banned and criminal action should be taken against the organisers. Udupi is know for its rich cultural heritage we dont have to resort to cheap methods like flesh trade or selling drugs through rave parties to lure foreign tourists.
