Mumbai, Feb 7: The extraordinary meeting of metro-based Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti (JSKPPS), an NGO that is striving for the integral development of undivided Dakshina Kannada district, was held at Hotel Silver Inn banquet hall, Marol, Andheri (East), on Sunday February 6.
Speaking on the occasion, JSKPPS Dakshina Kannada district president Padmabhushan Dr B M Hegde said that JSKPPS has gotten a bad name among the locals owing to Udupi Power Corporation Limited’s (UPCL) failure to install state-of-the-art power plant which is wreaking havoc on the eco-environment. “The local faming fraternity must be taken into confidence for their collective support in sustaining the eco-environment and water bodies,” added Dr Hegde.
He further stressed the need to introduce electric cremation facilities in every village to save firewood sourced from the forest. “JSKPPS will become the role model for other NGOs in taking a lead in this regard,” stressed Dr Hegde.
JSKPPS founder president Jayakrishna Shetty said that UPCL contractor Nagarjuna Power has not abided by the terms and conditions that were set by JSKPPS, which has resulted in bringing on the wrath of the local farmers. “JSKPPS will strive with social concern in taking up the environmental issue with state authorities and concerned departments,” he said.
