Udupi: Malpe police bust ganja, MDMA peddling; Three arrested, one absconding

Udupi, Sep 6: Based on credible information, Malpe police apprehended three persons involved in drug peddling near Gujjarbettu, Paduthonse.

According to police sources, at around 4:45 pm on Friday, a team led by sub-inspector of police (Crime & Security) Anil Kumar D of Malpe police station rushed to the spot, where four men were found near a yellow Honda Shine motorcycle. On noticing the police, one of the suspects seated on a KTM motorcycle fled the scene, while three others were secured and interrogated.

The arrested have been identified as Achyuth N alias Kiran Mendon (45), resident of Boluru, Urwa, Ashok Nagar, Mangaluru; Puneeth alias Puneeth Raj (24), resident of Gujjarbettu; and Chandrakant Katwa, a native of Odisha presently residing at Paduthonse, Malpe. The accused who escaped has been identified as Kishore from Kolalagiri.

During the search of the motorcycle, police recovered small packets of ganja weighing 3 grams 480 milligrams, valued at approximately Rs 3,000, and MDMA worth around Rs 10,000. Police also seized the KTM motorcycle used in the crime, estimated to be worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

The accused were found to be in possession of narcotic substances with the intent to sell. They, along with the seized items, have been taken into custody. A case has been registered at Malpe police station.
