Saudi Arabia, Sep 10: In a move to enhance the experience of millions of pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has unveiled an innovative competition, the “Eashathon” challenge, inviting Saudi chefs to design creative catering solutions that combine food quality, safety, and spirituality.
The initiative was launched on Monday at the Ministry’s headquarters in Makkah during the Innovation Makers Forum, held under the patronage of Deputy Minister Dr. Abdul Fattah Mashat, and attended by senior officials including Dr. Amr Al-Madah, Undersecretary for Hajj and Umrah Services.
Officials said the programme is aimed at empowering Saudi talent to reimagine food services for pilgrims while adhering to international quality standards. The challenge seeks innovative approaches to food preparation, safe distribution, and sustainability—directly aligning with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 strategy.
The “Eashathon” is part of the Ministry’s Center for Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship, which promotes collaboration with startups and entrepreneurs. Alongside this launch, the Ministry also rolled out the third edition of the “Sustainable Solutions for Guests of God” challenge, where 13 startups showcased projects in housing, accommodation, and transportation to boost overall pilgrim services.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, officials said the challenge not only elevates the catering system for pilgrims but also nurtures national talent and innovation, creating a more seamless and spiritually enriching pilgrimage experience.
