Udupi, Feb 8: The district JD(S) staged a protest on Tuesday February 7 condemning the rave party organized by a Bangalore-based private company in the guise of promoting tourism during the ‘International Festival’ held at St Mary’s Island, Malpe, a few days ago.

District JD(S) president Deviprasad Shetty, addressing the protesters at Gandhi Circle, on Tuesday alleged that the International Festival was held in poor taste tarnishing the image of India with rave parties by Western tourists.  He alleged that the district administration is responsible for their lapse.

Shetty sought the district administration to present the foreign currency accounts of the International Festival and to make it public. He also urged the state administration to sack deputy commissioner Dr Reju for permitting such rave parties, although chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda had said that it was organized to generate foreign earnings.

He alleged that the saffron parties including BJP are involved in organizing such parties, since the bar was open till the wee hours during the Festival violating the rules.

JD(S) district leaders M G Hegde, Ramesh Shetty, Shalini Shetty, Prasad Shetty, Vasudevaraj, and Jay Kumar Shetty were present on the occasion.
