Panaji, Sep 22: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Panaji has remanded Zenito Cardozo (36) to two days of police custody in connection with the assault case involving Rama Kankonkar. Cardozo was arrested by Panaji police on September 21, 2025, for his alleged role in the attack.

Reacting to the incident, chief minister Dr. Pramod Sawant issued a strong statement condemning the violence, asserting that such acts of “gundagiri” will not be tolerated in Goa. He affirmed the government’s zero-tolerance stance on crime and assured that law and order will be strictly upheld.

Dr Sawant noted that most of the accused involved in the case have already been apprehended and will be brought to justice. He also highlighted Goa’s national-leading crime detection rate of over 92%, reiterating that anyone found involved in criminal activity will be arrested without exception.
