Mangaluru, Sep 23: Deputy commissioner (DC) Darshan H V has directed that relief under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act be sanctioned promptly in all cases registered under the Act.
He was speaking after presiding over the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting and the Nomadic Development Corporation Committee meeting held at the DC’s office on Monday.
The DC stated that compensation has been sanctioned for all atrocity cases registered in the district under the Act. He instructed officials to ensure effective prosecution of pending criminal cases before the court, and to take all necessary legal measures so that guilty persons are convicted and punished.

From January 1 to September 15, 2025, a total of 42 atrocity cases have been registered in the district. So far, Rs 34.10 lac has been disbursed as compensation, and charge sheets have been filed in 22 cases, informed Hemalatha, deputy director of the social welfare department.
Zilla panchayat CEO Narwade Vinayak Karbari, superintendent of police Arun K, deputy commissioner of police Mithun, Mangaluru sub-divisional officer Meenakshi Arya and others were present.
