Goa group demands greater transparency in local polls

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Sep 24: Citizens for Democracy Goa has urged the Goa State Election Commission to enhance transparency ahead of the upcoming zilla panchayat and municipal elections by making all election-related information publicly accessible online.

Elvis Gomes, convener of the organisation, criticised the commission’s decision to keep the draft delimitation of constituencies limited to mamlatdar offices instead of uploading it on the official website. “It is a contradiction that in this age of e-governance, the commission has chosen not to upload the draft of delimitation of constituencies,” Gomes said.

The group has also requested an extension for filing objections to ensure prospective candidates have sufficient time for preparation.
