New York, Sep 25: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday demanded an investigation into what he called “triple sabotage” at the United Nations after an escalator, teleprompter, and sound system malfunctioned during his address on Tuesday.
Trump described the incidents as “very sinister” in a social media post on Truth Social, calling for arrests and confirming that the Secret Service is probing the events. “This wasn’t a coincidence, this was triple sabotage at the UN. They ought to be ashamed of themselves,” he wrote, adding that he sent a copy of his letter to the UN Secretary-General demanding an immediate investigation.

Footage from the UN headquarters in New York showed the 79-year-old president and First Lady Melania Trump getting on an escalator that abruptly stopped, forcing them to walk up the steps. During his speech, Trump’s teleprompter failed for the first 15 minutes, and the auditorium sound system reportedly malfunctioned.
While Trump initially treated the escalator incident lightly, he later expressed concern that it could have caused serious injury. “It’s amazing that Melania and I didn’t fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first,” he said. He also criticized the UN for allegedly funding illegal migration and failing to support his peace efforts in Gaza and Ukraine.
The UN described the events as accidental. Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said a US delegation videographer “may have inadvertently triggered the safety function” on the escalator. On the teleprompter, the UN said it had no comment, noting it is operated by the White House. No immediate response was issued regarding Trump’s latest claims of sabotage.
