Ayodhya, Sep 25: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Awadhesh Prasad has reaffirmed party president Akhilesh Yadav’s pledge to revoke all legal cases against veteran leader and former minister Mohammad Azam Khan if the SP forms the government in 2027.
Speaking to reporters Prasad asserted, “Akhilesh Yadav will become Chief Minister in 2027, and within 48 hours of taking office, every single case against Azam Khan will be withdrawn.”
Calling Khan a “highly respected and senior leader” of the party, Prasad accused the ruling BJP of targeting him with politically motivated and fabricated charges. “The BJP has deliberately trapped him in false cases. He has unjustly spent nearly two years in jail. This will not be forgotten by the people,” he said.

Prasad also dismissed speculation suggesting Azam Khan might switch parties. “There is no truth to that. These are baseless rumours, just like the claims about the Central government falling soon. Azam Khan remains firmly with the SP,” he said.
Azam Khan was released from Sitapur jail earlier this week after spending 23 months behind bars. Though his release was initially set for 8 a.m., it was delayed after he failed to pay Rs 8,000 in fines related to two separate cases. His lawyer resolved the issue by submitting the payment in court, clearing the way for his release.
The Allahabad High Court granted Khan bail in two major cases this month — the Quality Bar land dispute and the alleged forced eviction of residents from Rampur’s Dungarpur colony. He was also recently acquitted in a 17-year-old case involving a road blockade and damage to public property.
Over the years, Azam Khan has faced at least 16 FIRs covering a wide range of allegations. His party continues to maintain that these are politically driven charges aimed at discrediting one of its most prominent leaders.
