Thane, Oct 4: A 33-year-old powerloom worker, who had been absconding in a 2023 rape and murder case of a six-year-old girl, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping and killing his seven-year-old neighbour in Bhiwandi, Thane district.
Police said the accused strangled the girl and stuffed her body in a gunny sack on October 1 before attempting to flee to Madhubani in Bihar. The victim went missing while stepping out of her house, and her parents discovered her body at the accused’s locked residence.
The man had escaped police custody in August and returned to the area days before the incident. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and POCSO Act, and police are investigating further.
