Mumbai, Oct 4: Veteran actress Sandhya Shantaram, revered for her captivating performances and classical dance prowess, has passed away at the age of 94. The wife of the legendary filmmaker V Shantaram, Sandhya’s final rites were performed today at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park. She had been facing age-related health issues in recent times.
Maharashtra’s Minister of Information Technology and Cultural Affairs, Ashish Shelar, paid tribute to the late actress, expressing his sorrow on social media. He praised her unforgettable contribution to both Marathi and Hindi cinema, highlighting her exceptional acting and graceful dance skills that left a lasting impression on audiences.

Sandhya began her cinematic journey with the Marathi film Bhoopali (1951), directed by her husband V Shantaram. She gained widespread acclaim for her role as a dancer in the classic Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje (1955), a film celebrated for its artistic excellence and awarded the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
Her illustrious career also includes memorable performances in other iconic films directed by Shantaram, such as Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1958), Navrang (1959), the Marathi hit Pinjra (1972), and Amar Bhoopali (1951). Sandhya Shantaram’s legacy as an actress and dancer continues to inspire generations of film lovers and artists alike.
