Tehran, Oct 5: Iranian foreign minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has stated that European nations have significantly weakened their role in future nuclear negotiations with Iran, accusing them of excessive demands and failed diplomatic strategies.
Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Sunday, Araghchi said the actions of the three European countries—widely understood to be the UK, France, and Germany—have eroded their influence in future talks. “They have certainly diminished their role and lost justification for negotiations,” he remarked, adding that any future discussions will see Europe play a “much smaller part.”

Araghchi insisted that Iran has consistently pursued fair and balanced outcomes in its nuclear discussions, but Western powers “created the situation” through rejection of reasonable proposals. Referring to recent talks in New York, he reiterated that diplomacy remains the only viable path forward. He criticised previous threats of military action and the use of the snapback sanctions mechanism, calling them ineffective tools that resolved nothing.
“The three European countries thought they held leverage with snapback, but its use resolved nothing,” he said. “Just as war was not a solution, snapback also failed to deliver results.”
The minister emphasised that Iran is still open to diplomatic solutions, provided its sovereign rights are respected. “We have shown that we only want our rights and are prepared for any negotiated result,” he said.
Reflecting on recent events, Araghchi also condemned attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling them unlawful and a dangerous moment in the history of global non-proliferation efforts.
His comments come amid ongoing tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and renewed efforts by global powers to revive the stalled 2015 nuclear deal.
