Mangaluru, Oct 6: The state government is preparing to recruit more than 18,500 teachers, including around 13,000 for government schools and about 5,500 for aided schools, said minister for school education and literacy Madhu Bangarappa.

Speaking at a press conference, the minister said that during the tenure of the previous government, only about 4,700 teachers were appointed. “Since I assumed charge as the education minister, 13,000 teachers have already been recruited, and preparations are now underway for the appointment of another 18,500 teachers,” he stated.

He clarified that the recruitment process has been delayed due to legal proceedings linked to the report submitted by Justice Nagamohan Das regarding internal reservation among Scheduled Castes.

The minister further informed that under the KPS model, nearly 80 percent of government schools, from LKG to class 12, have been upgraded. To enhance the quality of results, webcasting facilities have been introduced to curb malpractice during examinations, he added.

He also mentioned that the introduction of a three-tier examination system has significantly improved students’ performance. “Through this system, 1,16,000 students have passed in the second and third-level SSLC examinations, while over 56,000 students have passed in the PUC examinations,” he said.
