New Delhi, Oct 7: The Indian Army has taken a major step towards integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its warfare infrastructure to enhance precision and response time in dealing with national security challenges, a senior official said on Monday.

Lt Gen Rajiv Kumar Sahni, Director General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers, said the Army is developing an indigenous unified AI platform that will bring together operational, intelligence, logistics, and training applications under a single secure framework.

He noted that the practical use of AI was witnessed during Operation Sindoor, adding that its adoption within the Army is being carried out in a structured and cautious manner. “The focus is on areas where AI reduces risk to human life, strengthens decision-making, and enhances endurance,” he said.

Among the key initiatives is the Electronic Intelligence Collation and Analysis System, designed to identify and prioritise critical threats for achieving strategic dominance. Another project, Trinetra, enables a shared operational picture to improve coordination, situational awareness, and decision-making superiority.

Lt Gen Sahni said the Electronic Intelligence Collation system, widely used by intelligence agencies, was swiftly customised during Operation Sindoor to meet varied operational needs, helping track adversary sensor systems effectively.

He added that the Trinetra system provided a unified operational and intelligence picture at tactical and operational levels, enhancing coordination, agility, and situational awareness among commanders.

Lt Gen Sahni also highlighted the Predictive Threat Modelling Using AI framework, which has transformed battlefield logistics through faster and more accurate deployment of assets where they are needed most.

“With these initiatives, the Indian Army is moving steadily towards becoming a technology-driven, future-ready force,” Lt Gen Sahni said. “By responsibly embracing automation, digitisation, and AI, the Army seeks to maintain its operational edge, bolster national security, and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat,” he added.
