Kuchaman, Oct 7: In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old businessman, Ramesh Rulania, was shot dead while working out in a gym in Rajasthan’s Kuchaman on Tuesday morning. The murder, captured on CCTV, showed a masked assailant entering the second-floor gym and opening fire at Rulania before fleeing the spot.

Rulania, who owned a bike showroom and hotel in the city, died on the spot. Soon after the incident, the Rohit Godara gang claimed responsibility for the killing on social media.

Gang member Virander Charan, believed to be based in Portugal, wrote on Facebook that Rulania had insulted them during a phone call a year ago when they allegedly made an extortion demand. “We called him a year ago. He used abusive language and said he wouldn’t even give us Rs 100. Today everyone will know we don’t forget anyone,” Charan posted, warning others not to ignore their calls.

Police sources said several businessmen in the region have received similar extortion threats from the gang in recent months.

Rohit Godara, also known as Rawatram Swami, is a notorious gangster from Bikaner and is said to be operating from Portugal. He is suspected to be the mastermind behind several high-profile killings, including that of gangster Raju Thehat in Sikar in 2022, Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in 2022, and Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in 2023.

Meanwhile, police have launched a search to trace the gunman involved in Rulania’s killing, while security has been tightened across Kuchaman and nearby districts.
